In May I visited New York, one of my all-time favourite cities, for BEA 2015. I joined Maggie Stiefvater and Jackson Pearce (Pip Bartlett’s Guide to Magical Creatures) and fellow Erin Hunter, Tui T. Sutherland (Wings of Fire), on a panel moderated by Lev Grossman, Time magazine’s book critic and a New York Times bestselling author in his own right.
The panel was called Wild at Heart: Animal Fantasy in Children’s Books, and I talked about my passion for foxes and my inspiration for the Foxcraft trilogy. I’m a huge fan of animal fantasy, where readers get to explore thrilling and dangerous lands without all the rules – the wild world of animals. Fascination and care for animals is also a great way of developing empathy.
